US & EU withdraw Security Council Resolution

The media is reporting today that the US and the EU have withdrawn their UN resolution on Kosovo after a third round of negotiations with Russia failed to produce any results.  In response, Kosovo Prime Minister, Agim Çeku, has announced that Kosovo will declare independence on November 28th.

Thus far, it appears that the Kosovar government would follow the Ahtisaari plan following an independence declaration.

Kosovo's government would invite Nato's peacekeeping troops to stay and ask the EU to implement a supervisory mission – as proposed by Mr Ahtisaari – over a four-month transition period to take the place of the UN protectorate. But doubts remain about the resolve of the EU to step into the role without a UN resolution.

A real question will be whether American and European leaders have the political will to do something or whether they'll allow the present boondoggle to continue.

Anony, thanks for the book recommendation. I find Sabrina P Ramet a number of times on Amazon, but not that particular volume.

I may be more inclined to read it if I knew who you were and why you think I should read it. I enjoy reading material from a wide range of view points.

Well my name is AL and currently I live in Michigan USA originally from Albania. I lived under a communist rule my first 27 years of my life. I grew up with different mentality because the communist motto was “You are guilty before being innocent”. When I immigrated to USA I started to learn the real motto “you are innocent until proven guilty” you are going to ask why I am making this analogy. Here is why
I see in many places in internet and if you Google in few minutes you will see a distorted view which is purposely done so by the Serbian side (when I say Serbian side I mean everyone with as Serbian origin or association with Serbs) haven’t found any one in Internet that says anything good about Albanians. When it comes to the educated professionals, it is a different story as the example of Sabrina P. Ramet. Since you are on the ground in Kosovo, you are aware of the situation there and know better, what is the reality and what is fiction. Since you are on the ground, it will serve you to better to understand the reality. There are so many opinions and different takes but there is I think impartiality and a very realistic look why things happen and are in the way they are right now in Kosovo.
I involve myself in the Kosovo issue because my wife is from Gjilan and myself was there working for almost three years.
I appreciate you answer and looking forward many more

AL, faleminderit shume qe me shkrove! Tash kuptoj me mire cka kishe ne mend.

I'll bookmark that author and try to find the book you've recommended. It is difficult to find objective news anywhere, but especially news about the Balkans in general and Kosovo in particular.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a lengthy comment!
